Minutes of Meeting
April 27, 2012
Oklahoma SCS/NRCS Retired Employees met at the Golden Corral Buffet
at 520 South MacArthur Blvd. in Oklahoma City.
Fifty-six people were in attendance.
President Dan Runnels called the meeting to order.
He reminded everyone to pay for their dues and their meal
before eating. He asked
that everyone keep Doris Lambeth (wife of Nick Lambeth) in their
prayers. Doris is in ICU
at the Shawnee Hospital.
Charley Cail provided the blessing for the meal.
Everyone enjoyed the buffet meal.
Following the meal, President Runnels again called the meeting to
order. He reminded
everyone to sign-in if they have not yet done so.
He told everyone why the location of the meeting was changed.
Tony Boeckman introduced himself as a first time attendee.
Those in attendance introduced themselves and their spouse if
in attendance.
Secretary/Treasurer Sandra Hough read the minutes of the October 28,
2011, meeting. They were
approved as read. The
treasurers’ report showed a balance at the last meeting of
$1,001.21, with $240.00 dues deposited for a beginning balance of
$1,241.21. Expenses for
this meeting were $368.00 leaving an ending balance of $873.21.
Additional expense was incurred due to sending out a second
notice due to the change in location.
There were 340 notices mailed, 3 returned, 1 re-mailed.
Six of the postcards mailed with a change in location were
returned. Current
addresses are needed for Helen Bouse (Stillwater), Treca Adams
(Pawnee), Jim Hart (Tulsa), Debbie Ruark (Stillwater), Winston Hook
(Madill), & Anthony Lawrence (McAlester).
Several retirees have updated their addresses through emails.
The retiree website (www.cyber-shack.net/nrcs/
) has been helpful in our effort to keep retirees informed.
This website also has a posting of the attendees, minutes and
pictures from each of the meetings.
Fred Fortney read a list of recent retiree deaths:
Kathy Garman, wife of Gary Garman retired RC&D Coordinator,
McAlester, 3/15/12; Jack Clayton (80), retired Geologist from WPS at
Chickasha, 2/20/12; Jim Dunham, son of Royce & Rita Dunham retired
SCT Shattuck/Arnett, 2/18/12; Forrest McClung (89), retired Area
Engineer, Okmulgee, 12/30/11; Walter Lamar, retired DC Fairview,
10/31/11; Francis Adam, retired DC from Wilburton, 12/8/11.
In addition it was reported that Bill Aldridge, retired SCT,
Okemah, passed two weeks ago; and Archie Welch (one week shy of 90),
retired AC living at Ardmore, passed a week ago.
A moment of silence was observed and Fred offered a prayer.
Twelve new retirees have been added to our retiree list:
Jasper Parker, ASTC(FO), Stillwater, 36 yrs.; Suzanne
Collier, Resource Conservationist on Program Staff, Stillwater, 34
yrs.; Steve Tully, Biologist on Ecological Science Staff,
Stillwater, 40 yrs.; David Wells, Agronomist, McAlester TSO; Robert
Dukes, SCT, Oklahoma City FO; James Green, DC, Idabel; Paul Parham,
SCT, Atoka; Winston Hook, SCT, Madill; Wanelda Corbin, IT Staff,
Clinton TSO; Anthony
Lawrence, CET, McAlester TSO; Janelle Ernce, IT Staff, Stillwater;
and Tammy Lawless, IT Staff, McAlester.
Randy Freeland had a slide show of slides he had borrowed from the
State Office information section to show to the group; however, due
to the lighting and location of the meeting room he was not able to
show the slides. Next
meeting will be in a room where lights can be controlled.
Everyone looks forward to being able to continue this part of
the program.
Dan Runnels shared information he had received about becoming a
mentor with the CRP Readiness Initiative.
Anyone interested was encouraged to contact the person listed
on the flyers he passed out.
Randy told the group he is the Oklahoma representative to ARCSE and
uses information gathered at the meeting to provide news articles
for the newsletters sent to members of the organization every other
month. Dues are $18 per
year and he has membership applications for anyone interested in
joining. He asked those
in attendance who have activities not previously reported to
complete an information sheet or update information.
There was no other business to bring before the group and the
meeting was adjourned.
The next meeting was scheduled for Friday, October 26, 2012, at the
Golden Corral Buffet, 520 South MacArthur Blvd. in Oklahoma City.
It is located between I-40 & Reno behind the Shell Station.
Take Exit #144 off I-40.
Go north on MacArthur Blvd.
