The Oklahoma SCS/NRCS Retirees met April 23, 2010 at the Hometown Buffet Restaurant in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Thirty eight people were in attendance.  They were:  David Ankle, Otis Bennett, Lester & JoAnne Brockmann,  Bob Bumgarner, Steve Chessmore, Everett & Helen Cole, Geri Cutler, Bobby Davis, Wayne Fjeseth, Jim & Roberta Frie, Lloyd Garrison, Jim & Mollye Henley, Mavis & Wilene Jones, Otho LaMar, Carl & Jeanne Mackey, Jim McCampbell, Gordon Moebius, George Moreland & his guest Evelyn Miller, Nelson Mueller, John & Joy Pewthers, Eddie & Linda Rathbun, Stan Rice, Dan Runnels, Gayland Sandy, Joe Schneider, Tom Sebert, Norm & Jane Smola, and Betty Todd.

Stan Rice provided the blessing and everyone enjoyed a buffet meal.  After the meal, President Stan Rice asked the group and especially first timers to introduce themselves.

Joe Schneider, retired District Conservationist from Miami in 1998, introduced himself as a first time attendee.  Joe has retired again as a Project Coordinator for a Water Quality Project for the Oklahoma Conservation Commission.  Stan noted that Terry and Sandra Hough were camping in Texas, Fred Fortney was recovering from knee replacement surgery, Randy and Bonnie Freeland were on a Western Caribbean cruise and Don Bartolina was involved with Conservation Boot camp (NRCS new employee training) so all were absent from the day’s meeting.

Stan Rice read a list of retirees who have passed away since our October 2009 meeting:

  • Amos Barnard, 11/24/09, Retired from Stillwater FO in 09/84 after working 37 years
  • Madge Spangel, 11/27/2009, retired from Wagoner FO after working 24 years, was 93 years old.

A moment of silence was observed and Stan offered a prayer.

Vice-President John Pewthers asked retirees to share funny stories and memories from their careers with SCS/NRCS.  Many were shared to the delight of all of those in attendance.

The next meeting will be in October 2010, at the Hometown Buffet on NW Expressway in Oklahoma City.  A notice will be sent out prior to the meeting with the specific date.
